How to Prepare for Your First Laser Hair Removal Session

Get Smooth, Hair-Free Skin with Expert Tips from AMC Laser Lounge! Laser hair removal can seem like a cosmic joke—never again do you have to shave, pluck, or otherwise take an interest in those hundreds of hairs growing all over your body. It may be that this web service willfully embodies the amusing paradox in one word, "Maintenance."

Preparation is essential for laser hair removal as it affects the ultimate effect and the kind of results you have - sometimes in quite dramatic ways. Let’s get laser ready.

Before you agree to anything, it is important to have a consultation with one of our certified technicians at AMC Laser Lounge, where we will:

- Evaluate your skin type and hair color

- Ask you about your medical history and check what prescriptions you're taking.

- Set reasonable goals and timeframes for achieving them in your specific situation.

- If necessary, we will run a patch test during this session too!

Like a spa, the AMC team tailors each client a personalized treatment plan so you can be at your most comfortable.

Laser treatments work best on skin that is not tanned. To get the best results, you must avoid direct sunlight or tanning beds starting now and for at least two weeks before your appointment. During the course of your treatment, use a broad-spectrum SPF 30+ every day.

Pro tip: Avoid self-tanners and spray tans before your treatment too.

For laser hair removal to be effective, the root of the hair must be targeted rather than surrounding hairs. This makes hair removal methods like waxing, tweezing, and epilation unfavorable.

You should be:

- Waxing and tweeting 4 weeks before your appointment. Do not touch emulation for this period of time.

- Plan to "shave" only from now on without shifting back from it once smooth skin is achieved. But remember to keep the root intact. This means shaving your hair off right before a laser session.

Shaving the hair for treatment allows the laser to hit or enter, in other words, reach the follicle without burning surface hair. Be careful to:

- Use a clean, brand-new razor

- Shave your treatment area with it 12–24 hours before your session

- Don't shave immediately before treatment, because doing so may cause sensitivity for a while to come afterward.

Stop using any products that will irritate your skin or make it more sensitive to light in the 3–5 days before treatment.

These can include:

- Retinol

- Glycolic or salicylic acids

- Hydroquinone

- Acne remedies

Whenever I'm coming up on a session, all harsh skincare products are put to one side in favor of using gentle cleansers and moisturizers only.

Tell Us Your Medication History

It's also crucial to discuss your medication history with us. Certain medications can affect how your skin reacts to laser treatment. Always be honest so we can provide the safest and most effective treatment plan for you.

Remember, the content above is not rewritten, so there is no output. It's only possible to target hair that is growing during the anagen phase, so laser treatment during any other periods of hair growth will do nothing.

Every full set of treatments will be different, but here are some averages expected:

✅ 6 to 8 sessions with four to six-week intervals in between

✅ Maintenance treatments to keep you smooth
